RACEBENT ROMCOMS; while you were sleeping

This was remade into a gender-flipped Bollywood movie that I enjoyed, and there are so many fanfictions inspired by this – but a remake of it by Hollywood wouldn’t go amiss either if they do something fresh with it. Racebent Romcoms has me taking existing Hollywood romantic comedies (and romances), and recasting them for the modern day with a more diverse cast. Featuring Zazie Beetz as Lucy Moderatz and Simu Liu as Jack Callaghan. Do you believe in love at first sight? Nah, I betcha don’t, you’re probably too sensible for that. Or have you ever, like, seen somebody? And you knew that, if only that person really knew you,…

    instant to-read; the sci-fi edition

I generally enjoy science-fiction stories. Fantasy is my favourite, and a blend of sci-fi and fantasy even more so – but science-fiction is pretty high up on my list of ‘genres I like to read’. But while I was putting this list together, I realised there were fewer ‘instant’ buttons than ‘handle with care’ ones, so this post is going to be pretty short. Space, the final frontier*. Books set in space, with humanity spread among the stars is almost always a draw for me. Spaceships and traveling from planet to planet, with survival and life being the goal. Give them to me. Bonus points for any books involving space…

    recipe; marinara sauce

Despite how many times I make this, – and I make this A LOT – I just realised I barely have any photos of the sauce? It’s weird, considering how much I enjoy taking food photos for Instagram. This marinara sauce, you guys. My mother-in-law found the recipe, and then over the last year or so, we tweaked it and adapted it, and then snuck in some veggies until it is damn near perfection. The whole family adores it, we use it as is on top of pasta, we’ve used it as a dip, we’ve used it in baked cheesy ziti. It is super versatile and surprisingly easy to make.…

    TWISTED TALES; the golden slipper

This is a very Cinderella-esque story, but still, it can be turned on it’s head again to give something fresh. Right? Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring:Naomi Scott as the Younger DaughterNoureen DeWulf as the Older DaughterTabu as the MotherAlberto Rosende as the King’s Son So the old woman and her daughter went to church, and the smart little stepdaughter made the fire burn up, and got the dinner ready, and then went to the willow-tree and said, “Willow-tree, willow-tree, come out of thy bark! Lady Anna, come when I call thee!” Then the willow-tree did its…

;five asian bookstagrammers you should follow

I haven’t been as active on Bookstagram as I would like to be. I’ve been posting! Almost daily for a week! But commenting on other people’s posts? I’ve been very lax on that, and I apologise. Still! There are a number of AMAZING Bookstagram accounts I follow, and today, I would like to take the opportunity to gush about a few. Let’s start with Charvi, @not.just.fiction, whose feed is bright and fun and so well planned and executed? I’m in awe. Charvi has recently alternated bookstagram photos with book tweets, and it makes for a very fun theme. Kae, @theportablemagik, is a recent find, and I think a newer Bookstagram?…

    review; lark ascending

Lark Ascending by Meagan Spooner Lark thought returning home to face her city was the hardest thing she’d ever do. She was wrong. No longer the girl who ran for her life, Lark’s ready for the Institute. She never dreamed she’d find a rebellion, a Renewable, and those she used to love embroiled in the fight of their lives. She’s mastered her magic, but she still doesn’t know if she can master the darkness stirring inside her. Nothing is simple anymore, and finding her place in this war – and discovering the terrible secrets behind her ruined world – might cost her everything she has left. Review:

RACEBENT ROMCOMS; when harry met sally

I’ve seen this maybe once in the entirety, but it’s got some good quotes and I think it’s time for a remake? Racebent Romcoms has me taking existing Hollywood romantic comedies (and romances), and recasting them for the modern day with a more diverse cast. Featuring Daniel Dae Kim as Harry Burns and Michelle Rodriguez as Sally Albright. Right now everything is great, everyone is happy, everyone is in love and that is wonderful. But you gotta know that sooner or later you’re gonna be screaming at each other about who’s gonna get this dish. This eight dollar dish will cost you a thousand dollars in phone calls to the…

TWISTED TALES; the princess who never smiled

I actually quite like this tale and I’m surprised it hasn’t been adapted. It might be a little difficult unless you make it super dramatic, I suppose. Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring:Adria Arjona as the PrincessAlex Meraz as the Humble Man It was a bitter thing for the Tsar her father to gaze at his doleful daughter. He used to open his imperial palace to whoever would be his guest. “Come,” he said, “come and try to enliven the Princess Without a Smile: any one who succeeds shall gain her as his wife.” And as soon…
