the seven deadly sins tag;

the seven deadly sins tag

I came across one of the most interesting tags I have seen over on Jess @ JBelkBooks‘ blog. I’m not one for tags unless I have actually been tagged in things, which is rare. But this was too good to pass up. And when Jess suggested that I do it after I flailed a bit about it, well, who was I to say no?

GREED

What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book?

Hmm. A few years ago, I actually picked up the entire Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray for 14 NZD. Which was – whoa. I mean, ENTIRE TRILOGY. IN GOOD CONDITION. FOR FOURTEEN DOLLARS. It was, quite literally, a steal. I also once found this book I had never heard of – The Shakespeare Secret by J L Carrell – for like, 5 SGD? And it was a really good book, so WOW. I lucked out.

WRATH

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

At the moment, I would have to say J.K. Rowling? Because while Harry Potter will always have a special place in my heart, I have realised her representation is quite lacking. I just – wish she would Stop.

GLUTTONY

What book have you devoured over and over with no shame?

The Chronicles Of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. The Chalet School Series by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer, or at least the books in the series I have. Both just make me feel like a little kid again.

SLOTH

What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?

What book haven’t I neglected this year? But specifically, because I was supposed to read it before the baby was born and she’s almost three months and I still haven’t read it – The Happiest Baby On The Block by Harvey Karp.

PRIDE

What book do you talk about in order to sound like an intelligent reader?

SHAKESPEARE. Literally anything Shakespeare. And sometimes Austen, even though I’ve actually only read Pride & Prejudice completely. I love them both.

LUST

What attributes do you find attractive in male or female characters?

Snark, but like, not to the point of rudeness. Wit, but a good heart. Not afraid to show their emotions. Loyal to the people they love.

ENVY

What book would you like to receive as a gift?

Literally anything you think I would enjoy? Or you could see my TBR. Lol. (No, but I used to tell my family to just give me cash instead of presents on my birthday so I could buy the books I wanted instead of them giving me something I didn’t like. I had no shame.)

And that’s the tag! It was as fun as I thought it would be, so I’m glad I did it. I’m going to tag a couple of people, but feel free to pass on it if it doesn’t interest you, or if you’ve done it before!

Even if you’re not tagged and you decide to do this, feel free to link me!

the mid-year freakout book tag;

the-midyear-freakout-book-tag

It has been forever since I have been on my blog – writing and reading slumps are the absolute WORST – but I come back and find out I’ve been tagged to do The Mid-Year Freakout Book Tag by Jess @ JBelkBooks? OHEMGEE.

This? Will be fun.

I haven’t read a lot of books this year. A grand total of six so far. So I’m gonna cheat, a little, and bring in books I’ve read last year too? Okay? Okay.

Let’s get to it!

Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2016

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. Hands down. I still cannot get over it. At all. I don’t think I ever will.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016

Oh man. I have a hard time choosing between Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner, and Winter by Marissa Meyer. Both the ends of their respective series. Both so great. Can I go with both? I’m gonna go with both.

New Release That You Want To Read But Haven’t Yet

I AM CRYING BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY AND I CANNOT FIND THEM ANYWHERE NEAR ME. I’m probably going to wind up ordering them online. My top two, at the moment, are The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater, and The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi.

Most Anticipated Release For the Second Half of the Year

GEMINA BY AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF. THAT IS PRETTY MUCH IT.

Biggest Disappointment

I didn’t finish my biggest disappointment of the year, I think. The books I did complete, I enjoyed. So I’ll have to go with Thief Of Lies by Brenda Drake, which I abandoned a few chapters in. The premise seemed promising, but something about the execution was just lacking to me. I might eventually try it again, though.

Biggest Surprise

It’s a toss up between The Chaos Of Stars by Kiersten White, which I just completed, and The Skylark Series by Meagan Spooner, which I read earlier this year. Shadowlark (and subsequently, Lark Ascending) kept me more captivated than I had honestly expected.

Favorite New Author

Um. Going by this year? I really enjoyed Jay Kristoff’s writing. It meshed well with Amie Kaufman’s. But also, Kiersten White. It was a breeze and a joy to read her novel so.

Newest Fictional Crush

Ry. Oh man. Ry. I really, really liked him. His whole thing with Isadora was so wonderful. Also Gideon, because smart and so many layers.

Newest Favorite Character

WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CHOOSE NOPE I REFUSE I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE. I love them all. At least, there are none I can think of that I actively hate.

Book That Made You Cry + Book That Made You Happy

I don’t know about cry, but Illuminae definitely had me gaping, and fighting the urge to throw the book across the room because of all the emotions. Happy is simple. Happy is The Chaos Of Stars. There was just something about it.

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation

I don’t think I’ve seen many of these this year. But of all time, I’m going to have to go with Stardust by Neil Gaiman, actually. Or The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Granted, I’ve not read Stardust (yet), but I do adore the movie. (I’m going to admit that I’ve done recasts for these movies because I want them to adapt it again. Same script is fine, just with new animation and actors.)

Most Beautiful Book You Bought This Year

I honestly cannot remember what books I’ve bought this year. I don’t think I have bought any this year. I bought a few last year…

What Books Do You Need to Read By the End of the Year

Besides the three I mentioned above, I’m going to say End Of Days by Susan Ee, Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray, and Lost Stars by Claudia Gray. All of which I own, but haven’t read yet. Oops?

the liebster award;

the-liebster-award

I was recently – and by recently I mean quite a while back, this is what happens when you take an impromptu hiatus – nominated for a Liebster Award! I will be honest, I have no idea what Ali @ The Bander Blog was thinking, but I really appreciate it. Definitely very flattered.

For the uninitiated, the Liebster Award is a chain-award that bloggers pass along to each other to highlight other blogs and allows us to get to know one another better. I will admit, I had to look it up when I was tagged, but once I did? So onboard!

And still so flattered, so thank you, Ali!

Basically, Ali got questions from the blogger that tagged her, and then she framed her own questions and tagged me, and I shall answer those and ask my own questions and tag a few blogs! Simple, right?

Ali’s questions? Very interesting. Her premise is that I’m in a sitcom and surrounded by book characters and bookish things, and I’m going to answer her questions based on that.

Let’s do this!

1. Where in the bookish world is your hangout? I’m talking specific (for example: The Gryffindor common room)!
Hmmm… I’m gonna go with The Three Broomsticks? Because food and drinks in Hogsmeade you guys.

2. Who is the roommate you’re best friends with? (example: Harry Potter)
SIMON LEWIS.

3. Who is the roommate you tolerate but gets on your nerves?
Probably Elena Gilbert.

4. Who or what is the pet you all take care of together?
Um. Snuffles?

5. Who is your pesky neighbor (this should probably be a villain from a book)?
Levana.

6. Who is your main love interest?
!!!!! I’m going to go with Lilac.

7. Who is the other person you like a lot, think is really cute, but just isn’t your one true love? This is probably the character that turns your love story from #6 into a love triangle.
…Tarver.

8. Who is the comic relief?
A tie between Simon and Ron Weasley.

9. In the season finale, what ex turns up from your past life and unexpectedly disrupts everything?
I’m going to go with Lark Ainsley.

10. In the series finale, what happens to you?!
I help a runaway bride escape with her maid of honour???

Whew, okay, that was fun.

Now, onto my 10 questions!

  1. What quote best describes you at this moment?
  2. What is the first quote you can think of right now?
  3. If you had to choose between reading your favourite book over and over but never reading a new book, or only reading new books and never reading your favourite book again, which would you choose?
  4. Which book would you have to have with you if you were stranded somewhere?
  5. Name 4 characters you would want to plan a heist with.
  6. Name 4 characters you would want to live with.
  7. You are now stuck with the 4 characters from question 5 on a deserted island. How do you all survive?
  8. You are stuck in a horror movie style situation with the 4 characters from 6. Who is the first to die? Who survives?
  9. Which character from (one of) your favourite book(s) would you never want to meet?
  10. What is the plot of your ideal book which you haven’t read yet?

I am nominating the following blogs. Feel free to answer the questions if you’re not too busy!

Jess @ JBelkBooks
Mary @ Books And Cookies
Rayna @ Reader Rayna

Even if I haven’t tagged you, and you’re interested in doing this, go right ahead! And link me below? Thanks, my dears.
